“In all countries, in all centuries, the primary reason for government
to set up schools is to undermine the politically weak by convincing
their children that the leaders are good and their policies are wise.
The core is religious intolerance. The sides simply change between
Atheists, Catholics, Protestants, Unitarians, etc., depending whether
you are talking about the Soviet Union, the Austro-Hungarian Empire,
America, etc. A common second reason is to prepare the boys to go
to war and the girls to cheer them on.” ~ Marshall W. Fritz (1943 -2008)
The Dept. of Agriculture runs the food stamp program which helps people buy food and patronize fast food places, etc.
The National Park Service posts signs that say “Please Do Not Feed the Animals because the animals may grow dependent and not learn to take care of themselves.”
This seeming irony is resolved simply by noting that the Park Service animals can’t vote.
“If you want government to intervene domestically, you’re a liberal.
If you want government to intervene overseas, you’re a conservative.
If you want government to intervene everywhere, you’re a moderate.
If you don’t want government to intervene anywhere, you’re an extremist.”
~ Joseph Sobran (1946- ) American Journalist
[The Tea Party] has to be the first “Totalitarian” movement
in the history of mankind that, if it gets everything it wants…
will leave you the hell alone. ~ Ed Driscoll
According to government and consumer group figures, Americans pay an average of $1,010 more a year for gas than they did on President Obama’s Inauguration Day in January 2009. Washington Examiner
“[Obama] supports corporate tax reform that would reduce expenditures and loopholes, lower rates for people investing and creating jobs in the U.S., due so further for manufacturing, and that we need to, as we have the Buffett Rule and the individual tax reform, we need a global minimum tax so that people have the assurance that nobody is escaping doing their fair share as part of a race to the bottom or having our tax code actually subsidized and facilitate people moving their funds to tax havens,” Gene Sperling, director of the White House’s national economic council said.
I guess the in the United States 47% who pay no taxes are going to see their taxes go up a lot.
So much for the Obama White House not wanting to raise taxes.
“I wish it were possible …to invent a method of embalming drowned persons, in such a manner that they might be recalled to life at any period, however distant; for having a very ardent desire to see and observe the state of America a hundred years hence, I should prefer to an ordinary death, being immersed with a few friends in a cask of Madeira, until that time, then to be recalled to life by the solar warmth of my dear country! But…in all probability, we live in a century too little advanced, and too near the infancy of science, to see such an art brought in our time to its perfection”. 1773, Benjamin Franklin to Jacques Dubourg.
Rick Santorum’s only hope right now is to team with Newt Gingrich. Santorum needs to talk to Newt and say, “look, we need to team up. You and I on the ticket together. Right now. Otherwise Mitt Romney ties up the nomination in April.”
Will it happen? Doubtful, but if not, there is little chance for Santorum in the long term.
(Of course he could do the same with Ron Paul, however the differences in their positions make that seem unlikely).
