How can they explain that they think it’s fair to force our children, our grandchildren, our great grandchildren to finance this debt through higher taxes. That’s what it will have to be. Why is it right to increase our nation’s dependence on foreign creditors?

If my Republican friends believe that increasing our debt by almost $800 billion today and more than $3 trillion over the last five years is the right thing to do, they should be upfront about it. They should explain why they think more debt is good for the economy.

How can the Republican majority in this Congress explain to their constituents that trillions of dollars in new debt is good for our economy? How can they explain that they think it’s fair to force our children, our grandchildren, our great grandchildren to finance this debt through higher taxes. That’s what it will have to be. Why is it right to increase our nation’s dependence on foreign creditors?

They should explain this. Maybe they can convince the public they’re right. I doubt it. Because most Americans know that increasing debt is the last thing we should be doing. After all, I repeat, the Baby Boomers are about to retire. Under the circumstances, any credible economist would tell you we should be reducing debt, not increasing it.Democrats won’t be making argument to supper this legalization, which will weaken our country. Weaken our county.   Senator Harry Reid on raising the debt ceiling, 2006

Senator Reid is right here, debt is not the answer and never has been.

Blaming Terry Jones for Violence in Afghanistan

General Petraeus stated that burning the Quran “was hateful, it was intolerant and it was extremely disrespectful and again, we condemn it in the strongest manner possible.”  Harry Reid added that the Quran burning by Pastor Terry Jones in Florida was “a publicity stunt” and stated that “I think people should understand the consequences of what they do under the guise of religion.”  People are blaming Terry Jones for the deaths in Afghanistan.

Let’s look at some of the ramifications of ignoring the First Amendment (and the rest of the Constitution) and property rights when convenient. First, Terry Jones, the flag burners, bible burners, Andres Serrano (“artist” of “Piss Christ”) – among others – are morons and some of the dumbest people around.  However, in the United States they do have the right to do what they do, whether or not it is right to do so.  Burning any book, flag or being disrespectful is not something anyone I know would do, but compared to the fanatical, terrorist, radical Muslims who killed and beheaded U.N. workers, the burners look sane.

However, people are blaming Terry Jones for the deaths in Afghanistan, let’s try and trace other “blame” following that same “logic”.  Some examples:

* If the KKK were to say “If blacks don’t ride at the back of the bus, then we’ll kill someone”.  Then you have “blacks” (I don’t like the term) who don’t ride at back of the bus and the KKK kills people and says, “But it was the black’s fault, we warned them” that it would occur.  Is it reasonable to blame the KKK or the “blacks”?  After all the KKK was angry and the “blacks” didn’t follow the rules set out by a bunch of radicals.  Of course, that is not reasonable.  The blame lies with the crazy people who committed the violence and no one else.

* If I eat pork or cow post it on YouTube and someone in Isreal or India is insulted and starts rioting, who’s fault is it?  The people rioting.  No one else.  They need to grow up and take responsibility for themselves.

* Perhaps Andres Serrano is responsible for Terry Jones and consequently Afghanistan because he may have been the one that got Terry Jones angry with the “Piss Christ” “art”?  Or perhaps it was the hypothetical college professor who is to blame for teaching Andres Serrano that intolerance of others is acceptable and should be considered “art”?  How far back does the blame go?  Blaming anyone else for Terry Jones is as reasonable as blaming anyone else for the insanity of extremists in Afghanistan.

* What if a group of people said “If you perform an abortion, we’ll start rioting.”  An abortion occurs and riots start, is it the fault of the Doctor who performed the abortion?  Of course not.  It is the responsibility of the people rioting.

Similarly, it is the responsibility of the people who did the killing in Afghanistan for their actions.  Face it, they are radical and extremists.  If they aren’t mature enough to handle reality except through violence, it shows just the nature of the individuals involved.  We have freedom of speech and expression in the United States, you don’t like it?  Too bad, they’ll just keep showing their immaturity and radical nature.

Extreme Taxes coming from Washington

Without serious spending reform, extreme tax levels will be coming from Washington.  The choices are to either reign in spending now voluntarily or have it forced upon the United States sometime in the future.  Spending and tax reform now are the responsible ways.  Government shutdown voluntarily is better than involuntarily shutting it down in a few years.  However, the extreme taxers in Washington are more interested in maintaining their own power than responsibility.

“Why declare that things shall not be done which there is no power to do? Why for instance, should it be said that the liberty of the press shall not be restrained, when no power is given by which restrictions may be imposed?” – Alexander Hamilton

“Why declare that things shall not be done which there is no power to do? Why for instance, should it be said that the liberty of the press shall not be restrained, when no power is given by which restrictions may be imposed?” – Alexander Hamilton, on the Bill of Rights.

Bloggers blame Sarah Palin for Gabrielle Giffords shooting

After seeing bloggers trying to blame Sarah Palin for the Gabrielle Giffords shooting today, a few facts should be stated:
1. Jared Lee Loughner lists among his favorite books Mein Kampf and the Communist Manifesto on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/user/Classitup10). None of those would be listed by any Republican or Tea Partier as favorite books. Both favor a large, central, all-powerful government controlling the citizens.
2. Jared Lee Loughner’s High School friend on twitter (http://twitter.com/caitieparker) says he was a “left wing” pot head.
3. Jared Lee Loughner writes using the terms “B.C.E”. Loughner hated “In God We Trust.” Both of which show he is not a Christian.
4. Loughner is reportedly a registered “independent”.
5. Loughner shot and killed a Republican Federal Judge. Does that make him a Democrat?

6. CNN used the name “Crossfire” for a show for nearly 25 years (1982-2005).  That is 23 years of indoctrinating people to think of political debate as “Crossfire”.
[Update] 7. Loughner had sent Representative Giffords a letter in 2007. More than a year prior to Sarah Palin being a household name.

[Update 1/12/2010] 8. “He did not watch TV.  He disliked the news. He didn’t listen to political radio” according to a friend.

Update 1/17/2010] 9. The New York Times reports that Loughner was a Present Bush hater – “His anger would well up at the sight of President George W. Bush”.

Saying Sarah Palin is to blame, the Tea Party, the Republican party – or for that matter the Democratic party – is nuts. It sounds like something that this nut job would say! The blame belongs with an insane killer. No one else. But don’t let any facts get in the way of a good smear.

Concentrate on the victims, not trying to pin it on someone else.

Regarding the Communist Manifesto, Conservatives generally want small government with power widely distributed and closer to the voter with most decisions left to the individual. (The left wing wants larger, more centralized government. Once the differences are stated it becomes clear that one side wants power in government, the other freedom to the people. Groups that want large government are the fascists, socialists, and communists – in other words statists and dictators like the Nazi Socialists, the USSR, Mao’s Socialists. All of whom were willing to kill millions of people in order to establish their social order. All of whom wanted a strong, central, powerful government in order to impose their will on everyone else “for their own good.”

The choice is easy: freedom or government. Life and liberty vs power and control.

The great corrupter of the American constitutional republic is government ignoring its Constitutional bounds

Mort Zuckerman makes some good points in his USNews commentary, but misses the boat with his comments on money in politics.
Money is a tool.  The problem occurs when the government is everywhere, then politics is everywhere.    When politics is everywhere, the fight for political power becomes crucial.  With no limits on their power, politicians in Washington become power-hungry.  The Founders understood this which was why the created a government of limited, enumerated powers.  Once the concept of enumerated powers was lost, freedom began down the long road of decline.
When politics and government are everywhere instead of individuals making their own decisions based in their freedom to do so, the freedom of the individual is lost.  Every election becomes about someone wanting to control someone else.  Every election will be more polarized than the last because many people do not want someone else making their decisions for them.  Polarization is good when one side wants to control and the other side wants freedom.  Compromise with your destroyers still results in you being destroyed, just slower than out-right surrender.
In short, MONEY is NOT the great corrupter of “American democracy,” but merely a symptom.  The great corrupter of the American constitutional republic is government ignoring its Constitutional bounds which allows power-hungry politicians the opening they need to take as much power as they can.

Compromising on Liberty is a loss for everyone, like taking a little poison.

Compromising on liberty is a loss for everyone.  Compromising on freedom is like saying “no” to taking a dose poison, but then deciding to take just a little poison each time compromise is required.  The poison will kill you eventually, it will just take more time than one full dose to start.  Poisoning the tree of liberty will kill freedom, just slower than an ax.

Sen Jay Rockefeller get the FCC to say to FOX and to MSNBC: ‘Out. Off. End. Goodbye.’

“There’s a little bug inside of me which wants to get the FCC to say to FOX and to MSNBC: ‘Out. Off. End. Goodbye.’ It would be a big favor to political discourse; our ability to do our work here in Congress, and to the American people, to be able to talk with each other and have some faith in their government and more importantly, in their future.” Senator  Jay Rockefeller (D-WV)

1. FoxNews and MSNBC are not on the airwaves, consequently the FCC has no jurisdiction.

2. Senator Jay Rockefeller must have missed at least part of the First Amendment to the Constitution, not to mention the entire Constitution itself.

What are the people of West Virginia thinking electing a clown like Rockefeller?  He is right, without a press that is able to publish the truth, the Federal Government’s big-government, power-hungry politicians, would be able to ‘get away’ with a lot more.  The First Amendment protects the country against the likes of Rockefeller.

Only a fool cooperates with his own destroyers.

“Simply saying ‘no,’ as we’ve had this past Congress … won’t bring jobs back.” Senator Harry Reid, November 3, 2010

Senator Reid, only a fool cooperates with his own destroyers. A pro-freedom agenda based on saying “NO” to a statist, anti-freedom, anti-Constitution, socialist agenda is what the election was about.  Politicians who care more about their own power than freedom, should be an endangered species with no 1973 Endangered Species Act to protect them.  When the choice is freedom v.s. control, compromising your freedom away slowly is no more sane than doing it all at once. Being statist democrat-lite will not only be bad for the Republicans, but for the Republic.

Would you compromise with a robber who wants to rob you?  Of course not.  Likewise, the host can not compromise with the parasites feeding off of her.

Saying “NO” to more big government, debt increasing policies is the way to create jobs because government does not create jobs, people do.
