Obama skips “by their Creator” in Declaration of Independence

Earlier today (Sept 15, 2010), President Obama recited the Declaration of Independence as: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal… endowed with certain inalienable rights: life and liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”  And added “That’s what makes us unique. That’s what makes us strong.”

The actual Declaration states:

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”

Boston Tea Party Tax Rates and former President Clinton

“A lot of their candidates today, they make [Bush] look like a liberal. The Boston Tea Party was protesting abuse of power. This is now trading public power for the abuse of private power.” former President Clinton campaigning for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mark Dayton, 9/14/2010.

One does not expect the former President to pay attention to history much and here is no exception.

Tax rates on tea at the time of the Boston Tea Party were approximately 8.3% and the colonists were protesting a government granted monopoly based on the tax on tea.  East India Company tea was not subject to the tax while others were resulting in an effective monopoly by the East India Company and its tea.  The colonists had no say in the matter and the effect of the monopoly was to reduce the influence of the colonies.

President Clinton misstates the issue here as what he refers to is an egregious abuse of power from Washington.  Former President Clinton:  in a free country there is no way to abuse private power.  Actions are voluntary through mutual agreement.  Only when the government gets involved is force and non-voluntary action the result.

There are two sides to the arguments in America: those who want liberty and those who want to deny it for their own power and control.

A note on the Boston Tea Party tax rate:
Boston Tea Party tax rate was 3 pennies per pound of imported tea. Tea sold for about 3 shillings per pound of tea in 1773.  In 1773 (until 1971) there were 20 shillings per pound sterling and 240 pennies per pound sterling, so 12 pennies per shilling.  So a pound of tea cost about 36 pennies per pound of tea, with a tax of 3 pennies meaning the tax rate was 3/36 or 8.3%.

NRSC states they won’t support Republican Senate Candidate Christine O’Donnell in Delaware

Christine O’Donnell beat Mike Castle for the GOP Senate nomination in Delaware, but the National Republican Senatorial Committee has stated they won’t help her in November. Republican leaders have told Jonathan Karl, ABC News that “They will do nothing to help her campaign. They will not spend a dime on it.”

The National Republican Senatorial Committee will not be getting “a dime” from many people because of this.

Calls to the NRSC at 202-675-6000 were not answered and emails to info@nrsc.org have not yet been returned. The more people who call, the more likely we’ll be to get a response.

You can also register your displeasure on the NRSC’s Facebook page. Let them know that you will not support the NRSC when they are supporting the Democrat in Delaware. Christine O’Donnell has principles, Mike Castle had expediency for power. Without principles you have no guidance expect personal aggrandizement and power. And if your principles are not based in liberty, you will have no one to blame but yourself when your freedom is lost.

Stand up for freedom, not the same-old politicians. Donate directly to the freedom-friendly, liberty-loving candidates themselves and cut the good-old-boys in Washington out.

Socialism, fascism, communism, the herpes of political systems. You may unknowingly get it and once you’ve got it, you’ve got it forever. They are probably more of an ebola or other fatal virus since eventually they – and any other authoritarian, collectivist system – will kill the host country.

How quickly liberty and then a country dies is proportional to the degree they implement any anti-freedom system.

Double standards anyone?

And continuing the police-state theme for random pat-downs in Philadelphia and warrantless GPS tracking, North Carolina Sheriffs want access to the States Prescription Database.  “We can better go after those who are abusing the system,” said Lee County Sheriff Tracy Carter.

Of course, if Lee County installs video cameras in everyone’s home, they could “better go after those who are abusing” their spouses.  If Sheriffs could review all your financial records they could “better go after those who are” dealing in cash.  Oh wait, the Federal Government wants to do that already with 1099s.

The standard for a free country is not to make it easier to monitor the citizens in order to “better go after” someone.  The standard is freedom.

It would me much easier to “better go after” people in a police state where everything is monitored, but no one who values freedom over convenience would care to live in such a place.

Virginia Court upholds GPS tracking without warrant

A Virginia Appeals Court upholds GPS tracking without a warrant.  Judge Randolph A Beales wrote “police used the GPS device to crack this case by tracking the appellant on the public roadways — which they could, of course, do in person any day of the week at any hour without obtaining a warrant.”  The GPS, he wrote in the opinion, “did not provide a substitute for police behavior that would have otherwise violated a recognized right to privacy.”

Judge Beales, please consider, the police might have been able to track a person for a limited time, but the police could not track everyone, everywhere for an entire year.  With an opinion like this, the police could track every single person in the United States (or world) continuously, forever at limited cost.

This is abuse of power plain and simple.
